Frugal Friday Funnies

Frugal Friday Funnies

Friday, July 11th, 2008

This first video should justify my stance as a frugal writer and this site as a frugal blog even though I do include these weekly comedic interludes just to break up the monotony.  In it, Chelsea and Patrick take frugal living to a new level and make a darned funny video clip at the same time.

By now everyone has heard of Dreamgirls, but even before Beyonce, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Hudson made it a household name, superstar Will Smith (who was then known only as the Fresh Prince of Bel Air) was doing a hilarious rendition of the musical turned movie’s signature tune, “And I Am Telling You (I’m Not Going)”.

Bob Nelson is pure comedic genius, and this appearance at Dangerfield’s quite a few years back will hopefully introduce some of you to a comedian that you may have never even heard of before.  He is a master of comedic impressions.

In closing this edition of Frugal Friday Funnies, I thought I would leave you with the song that has been stuck in my head for the past three days, just because I can.  I am a huge fan of Scissor Sisters and for some reason their song “Kiss You Off” has been the earworm that just won’t go away this week.  Here’s hoping it isn’t quite as severe for you!

I sure hope you all have a wonderful weekend!  It is Friday – have some fun and remember to always make the most of life no matter where you are or what your condition.  There is always someone, somewhere who is just a little worse off than you are and you need to take just a minute to be thankful for what you do have instead of always being upset about what you don’t.

Try to take life a little less seriously from time to time.  It will keep you on your toes and keep you feeling much younger.  It also just may help you keep your blood pressure down and keep you from ending up in the obituaries quite so soon.

Frugal Friday Funnies – July 4th Edition

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Happy Independence Day to all of my fellow U.S. frugal folk!  I hope you have all had a great week and are getting ready for a fun and relaxing weekend!  Now on with the funnies!

“Porn on the Fourth of July”

Okay, this is probably not work safe in any way (it is a holiday weekend!), though there is no direct nudity.  I thought it a fitting way to start off this week’s funnies:

“Surfin’ USA”

What could be more American than the Beach Boys?  This is one of my favorite songs of all time, and I managed to find an original video of the group performing it live.  Okay, so it may not be funny (unless you picture me dancing to it, that is), but nothing says summer to me like this song!

“The Star Spangled Banner”

When I think of the National Anthem of the United States, the first name that comes to mind is usually Whitney Houston and her phenomenal rendition during Super Bowl 25.  I could not think of a more fitting way to end this special edition than with one of the most beautiful versions of the song ever sung.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone, no matter where you are from!  Love you all!

Frugal Friday Funnies is a weekly post that includes amusing things I have come across over the past few days – some of which are frugal, some are not.  It is intended to be a relaxing and enjoyable way to end the work week.  If you have something you would like to see included in the Frugal Friday Funnies, please leave a comment!

The Frugal Friday Funnies

Friday, June 27th, 2008

First off I really feel the need to say TGIF, and welcome to the first edition of the Frugal Friday Funnies!

…and since I have been on vacation for most of this week, I can’t think of a good reason as to why I feel that way, but I do.  So there.

In the interest of kicking off your weekend on a light hearted note, here are a few funnies that may or may not have anything whatsoever to do with frugality just to give you a cheap laugh (hey, that’s frugal!):

Water Conservation PSA
Quick note: there is some slight naked bootie in this video, so it may not be the most work (or child) safe thing to watch, but it is so funny it topped my list for this week

The Doggie and the Drawer
If you have small children, you know how they like to get into everything, especially the drawers and cabinets that you don’t want them in.  Here’s the ultimate frugal idea for keeping their little hands out of those drawers and it doesn’t cost you a single cent!

Frugal Friday Music Pick
First I need to admit something to you.  One of my dearest friends is quite close to Jennifer Nettles, lead singer of the country duo Sugarland.  That said, I have been a fan of anything that she is attached to for years now and this video is absolutely no exception.  A video made from live concert footage, “Life in a Northern Town” is a remake of a song from the eighties and includes Sugarland, Little Big Town and Jake Owen.  It isn’t often that a remake can make me forget an original track – especially when it is a song I loved – but this one does it!

That’s it for this Friday, folks!  Have a safe, happy and frugal weekend!
